USC Fashion Week has come and gone once again. It was stressful, ethereal and wonderful at the same time. With the help of our amazing members, retailers, press, vendors and advisors, USCFW '14 was a success. Here's a breakdown of the rest of the week's events:
Tuesday was our Symposium event. We found three amazing panelists to speak to us about their journey through the industry. Whether they were a designer, brand or boutique owner, they had something to offer each of us. We had Rip Scott, owner of Alta Gracia Apparel, the leading company in living wage apparel based in the Dominican Republic; Debbie McDaniel, owner of Revente in 5 Points and huge contributor to the local women's shelter; and Jeff Plotner, co-founder and designer of Brackish, a one-of-a-kind line of bow ties made exclusively out of hand picked animal feathers. Brackish bow ties have been seen most recently on the Oscars red carpet by Bill Murray and by Jack Nicholson. Columbia's own Anne Postic was the moderator for the evening. The panelists talked about how they got there, where they hope to be, the effects of social media and the importance of being a good person.
